If you are using Microsoft® FrontPage® 2002, FTP access is not needed.
FrontPage makes it very easy to transfer files to
and from our server. You can also copy files using Windows Explorer, then paste them into
your web site wherever you would like to have them. If you try to use FTP with FrontPage
you may cause problems with the FrontPage - extended Webs.
How do I access my web site using FTP?
There are many programs available on the web that
can be used for FTP access. They are reasonably priced (some are freeware), and
available on the web for down load from http://www.tucows.com
and other sites that have shareware FTP utilities. The following example is intended for
WS-FTP LE but can be adapted to use with other FTP utilities.
- Run the WS-FTP LE program that you installed.
- Create a new profile name and make it something friendly like My Site.
- For the hostname/address type in the IP address that we will give you
when your site is ready and leave the host type set to automatic.
- For User ID, type in your user name then enter your password on the next
line as indicated.
- Do not check the checkbox for anonymous
- Check the checkbox for save password.
- Now click on the apply button at the bottom of the screen and then click
on the OK button and that should connect you to the server and you will then have a window
that is split into two parts, Local System and Remote System.
- On the local system side click the up arrow and use it like windows
explorer to find and open the folder in which you saved your web pages and select all of
the files that are in that directory by holding down the Alt key and clicking on each
file.
- On the Remote System side of the window open the file folder named 1 by
double clicking on it.
- In the middle there are two buttons one with an arrow pointing left
<-- and one with an arrow pointing right -->. Click on the button that is pointing
right --> and all of your files will be up loaded to the server.
- You are done, try typing in your URL in the browser and look at your
site.
