Why won’t my site publish or I am getting an NTLM error?
An NTLM error is a Microsoft® Windows® Authentication error. To insure the best security, Windows® NT challenge response is used on the hosting server and requires customers using FrontPage® 2002 to have Client for Microsoft Network installed and configured.

There are some things you can check that are required for FrontPage work with the server. Follow the procedures below.

Since FrontPage runs off of MS web server, the person publishing needs to have the same network software as the server. Client for Microsoft Networks must be installed on your computer and here are the steps to do it.

  1. On your Desktop or in the Control Panel, right click Network icon.
  2. Choose Properties, and click the configuration tab.
  3. If you see "Client for Microsoft Networks" listed in the list of items skip steps 4 to 9 and start the next procedure.
  4. Double Click on the Add button.
  5. Select Client and click the Add button
  6. Select Microsoft then click OK
  7. Select Client for Microsoft Networks and click OK.
  8. Click on the Identification tab and fill in the computer name and workgroup boxes
  9. Click OK, Windows will prompt you to restart. Click OK and restart.

When this is all done you must check your dialup networking again also.

  1. Double click on your My Computer icon
  2. Double click on the Dialup icon
  3. Right click on your ISP’s dialup icon (connectoid) and choose Properties.
  4. Click the Server button.
  5. Make sure that Logon to the network (is checked) and Encrypted password (is not checked)
  6. Click the OK buttons until all is closed.

If you have any problem with dialup after this call your ISP and tell them that you had to install Client for Microsoft networks and they will help you get the dialup working right.

If problems still persist, please contact Microsoft’s Technical Support at (425) 635-7088. Or as a last resort, you can call us and we will lower your security level so this will no longer happen, however we strongly recommend that you fix the problem at your end so your site will be more secure.

What does Directory Listing Denied mean in a browser?
For security reasons, files in a directory are not displayed by default except; those named "Default.htm", "Default.asp", "Index.html" or "Index.htm". These pages will automatically displayed by a browser out of any directory where the file name is not specified. Typically this is a problem when a customer names their home page something other than the allowed homepage names above. All pages that should be served directly out of a directory without being specified should be named Default.htm.

What does it mean " unable to connect to server at …on port 80"?
This error indicates a loss of connection to the Internet. Attempt to save your work, close FrontPage, reconnect to the Internet, and re-open FrontPage. Unfortunately, FrontPage frequently does not allow work to be saved if the Internet connection has been lost. For this reason, we recommends that our customers do their work on their personal Web Server on their local machine, and publish to the server at appropriate times.
