Important Note:
Before you publish your work to our server make sure that
your default homepage is named either "Default.htm", "Default.asp". If
you use "Index.html" or "Index.htm" or anything else, browsers will
not be able to view your site.
How do I publish my site using FrontPage® 98?
Publishing you site on our server is very easy using
FrontPage®. Just follow the simple steps below and your site should be up and running very
soon.
First verify that you are connected to the Internet by launching
your web browser and make sure you can access any one of your favorite sites on the
Internet.
Open FrontPage Explorer.
The Getting Started window should popup, if it is not go to the file menu at top left
and choose Open FrontPage Web.
Open existing FrontPage web checkbox should be selected in the Getting Started window.
Click on the More webs button on the right side of that window.
In the white dropdown text box type in your web site address like, www.yoursite.com.
Then click on the List webs button.
Then you should see <Root Web> or your web site title highlighted in blue.
Now click on the OK button at the bottom of that window.
Next a Username and Password dialog box should come up.
Type in your username for Name: and your password for Password: and click OK.
Your site on our server should then be open, dont do anything else with this site
just yet.
Using FrontPage Explorer, open you local web site that is stored on your local hard
drive as you normally do.
The on the FrontPage Explorer window go to File in the upper left and click on it (do
not use the publish button).
In the dropdown menu choose Publish FrontPage Web and a new dialog box will appear
titled Publish.
Make sure that the "Publish changed pages only" checkbox is checked (always)
and the "Include child webs" checkbox is checked (if you wish to include
sub-webs or child webs). Child webs are not normally included unless you have sub sites
under your main web site.
Click on the More Webs button and another popup window should appear that is titled
Publish FrontPage Web..
In the box provided type in your web site address like, http://www.yoursite.com.
Do not check the Secure connection required checkbox, then click on the OK Button.
That window should disappear and you should be back at the last window titles publish.
Press the OK button on that window.
In a few moments you should be publishing to the server because the site was already
opened once.
Should you get the dialog box that wants a username and password, go ahead and enter
them and press the OK button.
You can monitor the publishing process by watching the status bar on the
lower left of FrontPage Explorer.
Do not interrupt this process until the site is completely finished
publishing or you may create a problem that will not allow you to continue. Interrupting
the process before completion can also make it so you will no longer be able to open your
site.
