How to publish using Microsoft® Publisher 98
Important Note:
Before you publish your work to our server make sure that
your default homepage is named either "Default.htm", "Default.asp". If
you use "Index.html" or "Index.htm" or anything else, browsers will
not be able to view your site.
How do I publish my site using Publisher 98?
Follow the simple steps below and your site should be up
and running very soon.
Open Microsoft Publisher 98 from your Start menu.
When the Catalog window appears, click on the Existing Publications Tab and select the
web project that you wish to publish, then click on the open button.
Next, click on the Files menu in the upper left and choose Publish to web.
A web publishing wizard will appear and you click next on the first window.
Another window will appear. If you have never published to our server click on the new
button.
Another window will ask for a descriptive name. In the text entry type a friendly name
that you wish to remember this connection by. Like; My Main Site.
Now click on the Advanced button in the same window.
With the drop down choose, FrontPage Extended Web and click on the Next button.
In the text entry box type in the full path to your site like; http://www.onmy.com/mysitename and click on the
Next button.
Type in the very same thing as you did in the last step #9 and click on the next button.
(NOTE: I dont know why it needs to be entered twice, but it does.)
In the next window you must choose how you are connected to the web. If you are on a
local area network that is always connected to the web, click on the first radio button
selection that is titled Use Local Network (Intranet). Skip the next step if you use a
LAN.
If you use a dialup connection (modem), you must enable the second radio button
selection Titled Use Dialup Networking to access the Internet. Then choose the name that
describes your dialup ISP from the dropdown menu.
Click on the next button.
Another window will popup that is titled Publish your site. Click on the finish button
and in a few seconds or more, another window will popup asking for your username and
password. Enter them and remember, they are case sensitive. Make sure your Caps Lock is
not enabled.
At this point you will see a few windows depicting a file save, then anther window will
say the you are done publishing.
Open up your browser and check your work by typing in the URL of your site like; www.onmy.com/mysitename and press enter. Your
site should come up in the browser at this time.
If this method doesn't work it is likely due to the configuration
of Windows or the Web Publishing Wizard and we recommend that you save your pages as HTM
and go to our FTP Support page and
follow those steps. Be sure to name your main homepage to: default.htm.
If you have encountered any errors. please go to our Problems & Errors page.
