Common Questions
Some of the common questions that newcomers ask us.

How do I publish my site without dialup connections to the web server?
You just connect to the web through your normal ISP as usual and you can access your site somewhat the same way that you can view a site in your browser. You will not need to connect to us directly via modem to publish your site. Also, please see Publishing your site.

Would I have to change my Internet services if you host my web site?
No. You do not have to change your dial up access account to have us host your Web site. You simply use your existing access to send files to our server. Also, please see Publishing your site

Do I need a domain name to host my site with Iewebs.net?
No, we can set you up as a sub domain like  www.onour.com/yourname or www.onmy.com/yourname. But if you are serious about hosting a web site, you should be aware that a domain name has a more professional appearance and you can move it (if you ever choose to) without losing traffic from you links.

What is a sub-domain?
We own several domain names, and a sub domain is a stand alone web site that uses a domain name for the beginning of the whole name that would be typed into a browser so people can visit your site.

What are the advantages of a having a sub-domain, rather than my own domain name?
Basically, the sub-domain name is less expensive to setup and get started with. We can have a sub-domain setup and ready for you in a few minutes and we do not charge a setup fee for setting it up.

What are the advantages of a having a domain name, rather than a sub-domain?
A domain name is a more professional way of presenting yourself on the Internet. Domain names cost a little more to setup but they boost your image on the web.

How much more will it cost to have a domain name, rather than a sub-domain name?
We currently charge a $30.00 setup fee for setting up a domain transferred to us. Domain name registrars will charge you for the registration of your name. There are many companies now who provide this service and have their own rates.  If you are transferring from another domain name registrar and were given a Username, ID or Account Number and password to manage your domain we would need this information to make the changes to transfer. We can also provide you with the information that needs to be changed before your domain can be hosted with us.

We can also register your domain name for you.

How much longer does it take to get setup with my own domain name?
Typically, it takes 3-4 days for the account to be usable. Domain Registrars must first do their part, then it is setup in DNS and propagated to the web. We have on occasions seen this take up to a week or more, but only in a few cases.

What is the procedure for registering a new domain name?
When a domain name registration is requested, we need your registration information and a valid email address. After we register a domain name you will receive an email stating your name has been registered. We then create and set up your site and email accounts. As soon as your domain name resolved you will then be able to publish your site.

What is the procedure for transferring an existing domain name?
If you are transferring from another domain name registrar and were given a Username, ID or Account Number and password to manage your domain we would need this information to make the changes to transfer. We can also provide you with the information that needs to be changed before your domain can be hosted with us.  After the domain name registrar receives the response it is normally processed within 24-72 hours.  Once the transfer is complete, you will want to cancel your hosting account with your previous provider.

Why should I pay $/month for hosting when ‘Free web-hosting' does it for free?
Many of our clients come from places like that. If you enjoy heavy traffic, lack of service/support, and ads, banners with popup windows all through your pages then we're not for you. We keep our lines clear and do not host any large download or adult sites. The vast majority of legitimate sites out there spend a lot of time and effort preparing an enjoyable web surfing experience - it would be a shame to spoil it just because we wanted to squeeze in a dozen more sites.

What's so great about Microsoft® FrontPage®? I already know how to write HTML
FrontPage allows for rapid development and repair of Web sites. Suppose you have 40 pages, all built by hand, and needed to change the email link on all 40 - This would take some time - In Front Page, you just click one button. Also, if you are not a wiz at CGI scripts, ASP or Java, Front Page allows simple form creation, such as a feedback form or a discussion page without any scripting headaches.

What if someone advertises something on my site? Could I make money and keep it for myself with those ads?
If someone advertises on your site you keep the money. Non-Profit sites are an exception to this rule, non-profit sites on our server are not allowed to advertise anything for profit.

What are FrontPage - extended Webs?
FrontPage  - extended Webs are installed server extensions which provide the server side implementation of FrontPage. FrontPage communicates with the   - extended Webs via HTTP using a Remote Procedure Call (RPC). When the server sees the "POST" request addressed to FrontPage  - extended Webs it simply directs the request to the appropriate extension. The FrontPage - extended Webs implement authoring (uploading/downloading documents, to-do Lists), administration (setting end-user, author, and administrator privileges), and dynamic content (browse-time FrontPage Components). Without the FrontPage - extended Webs you will not be able to take advantage of the FrontPage Components that are available using FrontPage. Also, without the FrontPage -extended Webs you cannot author and administer your web using the tools provided as part of the FrontPage Editor/Explorer package.

What are FrontPage Components?
FrontPage Components are the mechanism for invoking many of the interactive features built into FrontPage. These features are added to your web through the FrontPage Editor by inserting FrontPage Components. Some FrontPage Components such as Include and Substitution allow elements of the web to be entered once and included in any or all of the pages by inserting the FrontPage Components referencing that element (e.g. a logo or navigation bar). Changes made to the "master" element are made automatically to any page containing the referencing FrontPage Components. Some other FrontPage Components are Search, Table of Contents and Timestamp, these control dynamic browse-time features. These FrontPage Components work behind the scenes to keep the web up-to-date for visitors. For more information on using the FrontPage Components, see the documentation provided with FrontPage or contact Microsoft Technical Support.
